How does an SSL certificate work?:
An SSL certificate ensures safe, easy, and convenient
Internet shopping. Once an Internet user enters
a secure area — by entering credit card information,
e-mail address, or other personal data, for example
— the shopping site's SSL certificate enables
the browser and Web server to build a secure, encrypted
connection. The SSL "handshake" process,
which establishes the secure session, takes place
discreetly behind the scene without interrupting
the consumer's shopping experience. A "padlock"
icon in the browser's status bar and the "https://"
prefix in the URL are the only visible indications
of a secure session in progress.
Why does a WebhostGIANT Certificate cost
considerably less than other providers?:
WebhostGIANT has direct access to the IdAuthority,
the largest commercial directory on the web. WebhostGIANT
can therefore expediate the validation of an application.
This efficient and highly effective validation method
ensures we can issue a Certificate at a greatly
reduced cost as reflected through our guaranteed
lowest price in the industry as well as maintain
a level of validation far superior to the methods
employed by other SSL providers.
Will WebhostGIANT Certificates work correctly
with my customer's browsers?:
In order for your customer's browser to seamlessly
use a WebhostGIANTCertificate, they must trust our
'Root Certificate'. Our Root (provided by CyberTrust)
is trusted by over 99.3% of all current browsers,
comprising all Internet Explorer 5.00 and above,
Netscape 4x and above and AOL 5 and above and comes
pre-installed with all Windows 98SE, Windows ME,
Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. This
browser compatibility makes WebhostGIANT as trusted
as Verisign and Thawte.
I am not a company, can I apply for a Certificate?:
Yes, anyone wishing to provide a confidential and
secure link between server and customer's browser
can apply for a certificate.
Can I apply for a certificate for a domain
and use it for other domains on my server?:
No. Each certificate only secures and works with
that domain name it was issued for. If you wish
to secure multiple domains, please ask about our
Wild Card Certificates.
